Okay, HouseGuests. After what happened this evening, I feel I should provide an clear, well-written explination for what happened. I know that many of you have probably heard it through the grapevine, or was involved directly, but I want to clarify everything.
In the Power of Veto competition, the rules clearly state that if you didn't submit a vote for your favorite HouseGuest, you were not eligable to win the POV. That meant, for all those who did not submit a comment, they were not able to win the Power of Veto. Well, Marie got five votes, Matt got one vote, and they were it.
For reasons that I cannot explain, I somehow have begun to associate Marie with another HouseGuest, one who did compete in the competition. For whatever reason, I was under the assumption that Marie had competed in the Power of Veto competition.
However, I was wrong. Marie was admitted to the hospital overnight due to abdominal pain and was unable to compete in the Power of Veto in time. This means she was not eligable to compete in the Power of Veto. For whatever reason, I assumed she did.
During this time, Marie sent me an instant message through AIM. Her screenname is LoveTheLlama1
. Krysta's LiveJournal username is thellamaqueen
. As you can tell, it would be easy for me to get confused. Initially, I thought she was Krysta. She than began explaining why she was unable to compete, and I realized it didn't make sense. I knew for a fact Krysta competed. Then I realized that I made this mistake once before -- it was NOT Krysta.
Because I was still under the assumption that Marie had competed, I figured it was one of the other HouseGuests who did not compete. I never considered it could be Marie, because I had assumed that she competed and I knew LoveTheLlama1 was someone who did not compete, apparently Dorsey.
During this conversation, I told her that Marie had won the Power of Veto. She seemed surprised and excited, so I thought that they must have been aligned or something.
Minutes later, Jason sent me an instant message through AIM and asked me how Marie could be the Power of Veto winner if Marie didn't compete. I went back and checked the competition, hoping/assuming Jason had misunderstood, and discovered that Marie never competed. That meant that Marie wasn't able to compete in the Power of Veto, making Matt the actual winner.
I sent an instant message back to LoveTheLlama1 and told her I made a mistake, and that Marie wasn't the Power of Veto. She said something that made me realize -- it wasn't Dorsey, it was Marie! I had just guaranteed her that she was the Power of Veto winner, and now I was telling her she wasn't.
Understandably, Marie was upset. She had already begun discussing stradegy between her fellow HouseGuests. This put her at an extreme disadvantage, because she no longer had that power she was promised.
I corrected the issue with Matt and Krysta, and you can see the results of the Power of Veto competition below. However, there was still the issue of Marie being vunerable because of my
mistake, not hers.
For this reason, I needed to compensate Marie for what happened. I messed up her gameplay, and I needed to right that wrong. For this reason, I gave Marie immunity this week -- in the event that the POV was used, Krysta couldn't nominate her; in the event that the Coup d'Etat was used, the Coup d'Etat winner couldn't nominate her. Just for this week, however. I quickly spoke with both the Coup d'Etat holder and Krysta about Marie's immunity, and they both seemed to understand.
Once again, I'm very sorry, especially to those who were directly involved, and especially Marie. I made a mistake that could have easily been avoided, and it was my fault. I'm very sorry.
Call me the Andybot if you want to. Not even Julie Chen would make a mistake like this! I can't believe I did it. I'm usually very careful about that sort of thing. Sometime in week two, I re-calculated one of the entire competition's results, because I feared I made a mistake. I'm really devoted to being correct and being fair.
I'm sorry this happened. I don't intend for it to happen again. Once again, I'm very, very, very, very sorry and I hope everyone understands that I am just a human.
